Market, Panzano in Chianti, Toscana, Italia

I love artichokes, but I’ve never really considered the artichoke.  You know, stopping long enough to decipher if one artichoke is a great as the next.  This does not mean everyone does this, but I’d be curious to know if you have.  While at the Panzano Market, I watched an older man spend five minutes examining these artichokes before settling on four.  It was remarkable to watch a person take such care with their food choice.  Italy was a sequence of moments like these, where I was invited through the practice of watching Italians approach their food to do the same and it is one of the things I am happiest to have brought home as a souvenir- consciously considering my food and savoring it thusly.
